The NEW IOM from Joysway is coming!
Joysway have developed a yacht to fit the IOM class which is currently in the final stages of development with two pre production prototypes now here in the UK doing some sailing and assessments for feedback to Joysway.
You can find photos of the boat on our Facebook page which give some details on the hull, deck layout, servo tray, fin ballast and rudder.
Both boats weigh in favourably and require around 50g or corrector weights to get them to the class minimum.
There is currently no pricing but the current expectation is around $2k USD plus shipping and local taxes.
Ordering is not currently available as the final spec and options list for the boat has not been finalised.
There will, as with all Joysway boats, be a comprehensive parts list which will include rig kits and individual fittings along with hull and deck fittings, fins, rudders and ballasts which will be a great readily available source of parts for home builders and 3D printers.

IOM Mint and how it sits in the RC Yachts stable.
Over the last week or so we have seen much interest in the new IOM Mint that is due soon from Joysway and we thought it might be useful to give it some context in terms of where it sits in our portfolio of boats.
First up, a bit of background on the Mint project. For some years now Joysway have wanted to build another, larger, DF racing yacht. John Tushingham had tried to steer them away from this course of action sighting the fact that the DF95 was about where it was at in terms of portability and ready to sail market. Something larger would bring it’s own problems in terms of transport to events and other such logistical issues.
So, at a meeting in January 2024 in Manchester which involved some red wine and some great Chinese food, the subject was discussed again, this time with the reveal that Joysway engineers had begun an IOM project and it would become a reality. John, Mike and Tim offered some useful advice and enjoyed some red wine.
Nothing much transpired until early 2025 when John received a large box with two early IOM prototype yachts inside with a note saying, “Hi John, look what we’ve done” After some inspection of the design and general structure it was decided that John should take a trip out to China and hand on some advice and ideas to Joysway to help them along with to project. In May 2025 that is exactly what happened.
Scroll forward to August and another couple of boxes arrived at John’s, inside were the two pre production prototypes you see in the recent photos. Much improved over the earlier versions and nearly ready for production but still with a few things that need working out.
So that’s where the project came from, it has all been Joysways own ideas and work until they required a little input from someone who knows and that they could trust to steer them in the right direction.
As for how it progresses there is still much to do and we at RC Yachts, as the world’s premier supplier of Joysway racing yachts and spare parts, are helping to put together the suggested boat packages and spare parts lists so that Joysway can make sure that when the boat comes to market we can support it in the same way that we do for the DF class yachts.
Here at RC Yachts our focus has always been on having things in stock when you need them so that you can either get your boat back on the water quickly after a breakage or you can purchase that extra rig and sails so you can sail in windier conditions with confidence. We will continue to do this and our next container delivery is due in the latter part of this year which will see us well stocked with DF boats, spares and accessories for the coming 2026 season.
The Mint IOM should slot nicely into our offering and add a high performance off the shelf class legal IOM yacht to this top level radio sailing class, something that hasn’t been successfully achieved before.
When the time comes we will offer the boat for sale via our comprehensive webshop and you can take your radio sailing to the next level and add another boat to your fleet safe in the knowledge that there will be a proven spares supply chain to keep your boat running.
As to timing it looks like it should be available off the shelf sometime early next year.
